REVOLUTIONIZING CORE TRAINING

Low Pressure Fitness® (LPF) is a revolutionary and global approach to core health that combines unique breathing and postural techniques to reduce intra-abdominal pressure. Though practiced worldwide, it is just now beginning to receive recognition in North America for its wide range of benefits that cannot be seen with traditional core and pelvic floor fitness, rehabilitative and maintenance programs. It is a complete core training program that benefits all ages and lifestyles. The methodology involves a seamless progression of postures and poses that cause a reduction in pressure in the abdomen and trigger an automatic response from the core (abdominals, pelvic floor, multifidus, diaphragm) causing an abdominal vacuum. Populations with core dysfunction or injury (pelvic organ prolapse, incontinence, abdominal or vertebral hernia, back pain, sexual dysfunction, poor posture and breathing patterns) benefit greatly from this technique.

The Hypopressive Technique has some similarities to ancient yogic breathing exercise known as the uddiyana bandha. It gained much popularity in Europe in the1980s, when it was implemented in the fields of urogynecology and obstetrics with the goal of helping postnatal women prevent and recover from pelvic floor dysfunctions such as incontinence and prolapse.  From the onset, the objective was to develop a global approach to core health through the creation of a pelvic rehabilitation technique that would benefit the whole core system, and eliminate the injuries causing detrimental pressure towards the pelvic floor. The success achieved with this new mode of core training, and its unforeseen benefits, inspired its evolution from a rehabilitation tool for women, to a complete core restoration and re-programming technique practiced by men and women around the globe.

Evidence has shown hypopressive training to be helpful in preventing various pathologies, providing improvements in physical performance and self confidence. Studies have also shown that hypopressive training results in improved respiratory capacity, spinal stabilization and abdomino-pelvic muscle tone. It has also been proven to reduce post-partum urinary incontinence and enhance sexual performance for both genders.
